Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which the Christian community welcomes
new members into the Household of God. Infants, children, and adults are
baptized during services on specific Sundays of the year and at the Easter
Vigil. Baptisms are scheduled on the following Sundays: The First Sunday
after the Epiphany (the Sunday falling between January 7 and January 13),
the Second Sunday of Easter (one week after Easter Sunday), Pentecost
Sunday (seven weeks after Easter Sunday), All Saints Sunday (first Sunday
of November). Private baptisms are generally not permitted except in
unique pastoral circumstances.
On the day before public baptism, parents and godparents (sponsors)
are expected to participate in a two-hour Baptism preparation led by
Cathedral clergy. Parents seeking Baptism for their children must
ordinarily be pledging members of the Cathedral who are actively committed
to supporting the ministry of the Cathedral, worshipping regularly, and
participating as deeply as possible in the life of the Cathedral.
Contact: To discuss baptism further, please speak with a member
of the clergy staff.
