Tuesday night Bible studies, led by Bill Tompson, meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm in the library. The group is currently talking about prayer in the New Testament. All are welcome

 
Weekday Bible Study
. The Thursday morning Bible Study group will not meet on the public holiday Thursday, May 8, but will resume on May 15. For further information, please contact group leader Ginger Strickland at youthpastor@acparis.org. An Episcopalian, Ginger received a Master in Divinity degree from Yale University and currently serves on the staff of the American Church.

The Sunday Forum – Don’t miss it! Meets in the library at 9:45 am.

May 11: ‘Meetings with Remarkable People: An Experience of Life at Shantivanam.’ Priest, author and teacher Dr. Meath Conlan will introduce the life, work and vision of Bede Griffiths (1906-93), a Catholic priest and Benedictine monk who spent the last half of his life living a remarkable experiment integrating Christian and Hindu liturgy, customs and spirituality at his Ashram of Shantivanam in South India. Meath Conlan lived at Shantivanam with Father Bede in the 1980s.

 

May 18: ‘Making God in Our Own Image? Jesus and the Historians.’ Cathedral parishioner Bill Tompson traces the “search for the historical Jesus” from early modern times to the present day, exploring what the changing agendas of Jesus research tell us about ourselves, our faith and our world as well as about Christ Himself.

 

May 25: ‘Human Rights, Animal Wrongs: What makes us human, and what gives us dominion over animals?’ Anne Marie Reijnen, Faculté Universitaire de Théologie Protestante, Paris

 

The Saint Anne’s Guild Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at noon in the Parish hall. “One woman can change many things. Many women can change everything.” This is the credo of Women for Women International (www.womenforwomen.org), a dynamic organization that provides female survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. The St. Anne’s Guild is pleased to welcome Judithe Registre, who will speak about Women for Women’s activities in Afghanistan, Rwanda, Sudan, Iraq, the Congo, Nigeria and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Annual General Meeting:
At 11:30 am, just before the luncheon, in the library, The Saint Anne’s Guild will meet for its Annual General Meeting. All members are urged to come, if they can.

Save the Date! Saturday, May 24th.  Cathedral members, children and friends are gathering for a Rally Day at L’Envol, the Chateau near Fontainebleau, accessible by train and car, which serves as a summer camp for seriously-ill children. We’ll be doing painting, cleaning, gardening, sorting, sewing etc. on the grounds and in the chateau to prepare for the children’s arrival. Gifts for homeless mothers: Toiletries, costume jewelry, slippers, airline kits and pajamas, scarves, hats, gloves, blouses, sweaters, baby gifts, wipes, candy, etc., anything which would bring joy to the homeless women living with the Sisters of Charity. Please drop them off at the Cathedral front desk marked “Sisters of Charity.”

Job Posting at the American Cathedral
:

As the result of a re-organization and re-alignment of duties of the present administrative staff (no one is leaving!) the Cathedral has announced a new staff position opening

Postion:   Director of Communications

The American Cathedral of the Holy Trinity seeks a Director of Communications whose responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:  keeping parishioners connected to the internal life and activities of the parish; keeping the essential elements of our life together - worship, education, spiritual formation, fellowship, and service - before the members of the congregation and the broader community. 

Production responsibilities will include:   weekly e-letter and Sunday bulletin insert detailing the offerings for that particular week and immediately upcoming weeks; a quarterly print newsletter;  planning, writing, and design approval of signage both outside and inside the buildings; strategy, content development, and supervision of Cathedral website; stewardship materials.  

Skills Needed: 

Strong desktop publishing and writing skills

Strong design sense

Strong interpersonal skills that complement a strong collegiality/team ethos among the Cathedral staff

Ability to multi-task, set priorities, meet deadlines

Skills Desired:

Mastery of Quark Xpress (or equivalent program), Photoshop and digital imaging, MS Office, Dreamweaver or HTML.

Note:  This is envisioned as a part-time position (approximately 24 hours per week), with flexible hours, a sometimes intense, yet compassionate work environment with lots of interaction with excellent and committed volunteers,  and the potential to extend to full-time.

Trinity Weekend 2008

 
Celebrate Trinity Sunday with a weekend of special events for parishioners and a group of visiting Friends. Come to one, or all! Events are free of charge but reservations are requested, and required for some events. Sign up for everything except the Hotel de Matignon, which is full, by emailing development@americancathedral.org

 

Friday, May 16

          Shining Light:  Meet the French artisans who restored the lancet windows over the altar; slide presentation explaining the techniques used to preserve our unique stained-glass treasures, 15h at the Cathedral.

 Our Cathedral: A special tour by Cathedral docents, 16h at the Cathedral.

 

Saturday, May 17

          The French State and the Episcopal Church: Private tour of Hotel de Matignon, the Prime  Minister’s residence and site of the very first Episcopal services in Europe. 11-12h, meeting at the Hotel de Matignon, 57 rue de Varenne, 7th arrondissement, metro Bac or Varenne. Reservations required at least one week before event, attendance limited to 40,  first come-first served.

           Our Church in the Beginning: Founding of our church in Paris, presentation by Cathedral parishioner and historian Ellen Hampton, 12h45-13h45, at the Cathedral. Lunch provided for €5 per person, reservation and pre-payment required for lunch.

           Musical mysteries:  Demonstration of the Cathedral’s renowned Cavaillé-Coll organ and  its history, the story of the Cathedral’s famous “Cole Porter” piano and its recent restoration, and the mysterious tale of war-time Cathedral organist Lawrence Whipp, presentation by Canon Precentor Ned Tipton, 14h-15h at the Cathedral.

          La Belle Epoque – a private tour of the Musée Carnavalet, featuring the famous painting of the American Cathedral by Béraud as well as other masterpieces from the turn of the century. Meet at the Musée Carnavalet, 23 rue de Sévigné, 3rd arrondissement, 16h-17h.
